The Firefly Series

The Firefly picture books are written for children ages 4 to 8. The books follow the theme: even if you are small you can still make a difference.

‘The Firefly who couldn’t fly’ is about a firefly who is so little that his wings cannot lift his body. When a greedy frog gobbles the other fireflies he embarks on the challenge to free them. After a few failed attempts because of his size, he discovers the frog’s weakness and uses it to his advantage.

‘The Firefly whose light was not bright,’ follows the firefly’s journey of being lost then finding his way back to the fireflies. Without a bright light he must rely on creative thinking and the ability to negotiate with glowworms.

Paint Me Back

Ophelia Jones is a gifted 14-year-old girl forbidden to paint by her grief-stricken father because it reminds him of her artistic mother who left abruptly six years ago. When she learns of a creature called a Gaagu that steals memories to feed its power, she sets out to conjure it in the hope it will remove the pain of her mother from her father’s mind so she can paint freely. The Gaagu arrives, but in a shocking moment, erases her identity as well.

Now a lost soul, Ophelia must try to convince her friends and family of her existence. When that doesn’t go to plan, she is forced on a journey to find a Clever Man rumoured to be able to reverse the spell, all the while, evading the Gaagu who attacks her through art. When there, she discovers the depth of her gift, her ability to manifest art into the physical world, and the true identity of her mother. She also learns that the spell can only be erased by her.
